Narges Mohammadi Finally Receives Medical Treatment
Norsk PEN is relieved to learn that our honorary member, and Nobel Laureate Narges Mohammadi, has finally been admitted to the hospital after being denied essential medical treatment for nearly nine weeks. However, the prolonged delay in providing her with necessary care, along with her extended imprisonment and prolonged periods in solitary confinement, has severely impacted her health.
In a statement, Narges’s family expressed their gratitude to civil and human rights activists, the Free Narges Coalition, and supporters within the global community and media for their advocacy.
For years, Iranian authorities have systematically denied prisoners access to basic medical care as a means to suppress their fundamental rights.
Norsk PEN strongly reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Narges Mohammadi and her unhindered access to necessary, ongoing medical care.
