Fengslede Forfatteres Dag 2005
Norwegian PEN marks the anniversary of the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa on International PENs Day of the Imprisoned Writer, November 10. 2005.
Norwegian PEN is hosting the November 10th event in Oslo, marking the 10th anniversary of the death of Nigerian writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa. There will be speeches and introductions by Norwegian PEN president Kjell Olaf Jensen, an introduction to Saro-Wiwa and the Norwegian state oil company Statoil´s engagement in Nigeria by writer Mette Newth and an update on the current situation in Nigeria by journalist Anne Hege Simonsen who recently visited Nigeria.
The play On the Death of Ken Saro Wiwa by Helon Habila will be performed by the Nordic Black Theatre. After the performance there will be music by the Nigerian band Bukokha featuring Dennis Otone. There is free admission for PEN-members and other interested parties for this event, starting at 19.00 at MS Innvik, Oslo harbour.
