“Law No. 7331, dated 8 July 2021, otherwise known as the “Fourth Judicial Package”, is far from offering a comprehensive solution to Turkey’s chronic lack of judicial independence, its problems with fair trials, and its issues with personal freedom and security. The judiciary in Turkey has urgent problems. Clearly, any talk of independent judiciary is null and void as long as the Council of Judges and Prosecutors continues to remain in the hegemony of the executive,” said Kasım Akbaş, who wrote the article.
