For many years, the winners have been central to the work for open, democratic societies. – The right to information is equal to the right we have to express ourselves freely. This year’s Nobel Prize winners have in different, but impressive, ways strengthened journalism and journalists’ working conditions, says Kjersti Løken Stavrum, President of PEN Norway.
– This year’s Nobel Prize shows that journalism is peacekeeping work – even though many in power see it oppositely, says Løken Stavrum.
PEN Norway praises the Nobel Committee for promoting the guardians of a free press, journalists and others through this year’s award. – Freedom of the press is a foundation for a sustainable development of society. We hope the award can help reduce the oppression of journalists, and give them the protection they need and deserve, says Løken Stavrum.
