Dear Minister
I, as a member of Writers in Prison Committe of Norwegian PEN am shocked to hear about the murder of Pierre Fould Gerges, vice president of the Caracas daily Reporte Diario de la Economía,
I am seriously concerned that the murder, along with the threats reportedly received by other newspaper staff, including Gerges’ brother, suggest that the journalists in question have been targeted for exercising their internationally recognised right to freedom of expression and opinion
I am calling on the Venezuelan authorities to investigate these crimes as a matter of urgency and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
