Mohammad Mostafaei awarded the 2011 Ossietzky prize
Norwegian PEN´s annual prize for outstanding achievements in the field of free expression, is awarded Iranian human rights lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei.
Mostafaei have saved more than 50 clients in Iran from execution, most of them women and children. After being summoned by the authorities for questioning in 2010, Mostafaei fled Iran and applied for asylum in Norway where he arrived last fall. He was reunited with his wife and daughter in early September 2010. Mostafaei gained international attention when he defended Shakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, a 43-year old mother of two who had been sentenced to death by stoning on a charge of adultery.
The Ossietzky prize will be awarded at a ceremony at the House of Literature in Oslo on the Day of The Imprisoned Writer, Tuesday evening 15. November at 19.00.
